Venezuelan Crisis: Refugees

Updated: Dec 4, 2023

The Venezuelan Crisis started with the election of a man named Hugo Chavez. After winning his election, he started to nationalize the oil industries. He began to do the same with businesses and factories all over Venezuela. He would also take private property from citizens and re-distribute it amongst the poor. In turn, no companies wanted to put any further investments in or return to Venezuela, along with the price of oil decreasing, which made the economy crash. He tried to put set prices on products and threatened to expropriate any companies that went against him. These companies eventually went under due to inflation, and the Venezuelan currency became increasingly devalued. Eventually, Chavez died due to losing a battle with cancer, and the power was handed to his appointed successor Nicolas Maduro. President Maduro, was almost taken out of office by an opposing party, but he created a new parliament and made the old one null and void in order to maintain power. Due to all of these actions, many Venezuelan residents have started to immigrate over to the US in search of a better life.

In response to this crisis, the Baby Party is working hard to put a new policy in place to keep Venezuelan Immigrants safe, and have a process to give them proper refugee status. We will institute a policy where they recognize any Venezuelan citizen who is able to set foot on US soil as having refugee status. We will give them asylum and legal papers to work and live in the United States of America legally. This would be done through the power of the Legislative and Executive branches. They must somehow make their way to the US without help from the government, and if they are caught trying to make their way in, they will be sent back to Venezuela, but if they can set foot on land, they are given immunity, and taken to nearby refugee camps. In the camps, volunteers from the Baby Party, and volunteers from the public, will help by going around and getting information on each person. They will write down the necessary information and send it to our partners at Welcome.US who will put it through a system required to get each refugee proper legal papers. After we have gathered the information, the Baby Party will put forward their own budget towards paying for proper transportation of the refugees. We will also use our government sponsored buses to rehabilitate the new residents to different parts of the country.
